Send a full bill of materials to a quick-turn manufacturing portal and watch what happens. The machined parts that fit the process window come back priced in minutes. But the cast part, the molded housing, the weldment, the parts needing finishing or assembly? No quote. Not because those parts are exotic. Because the platform can’t make them.

So, the BOM sourcing problem is yours again. Five vendors instead of one. Five POs, five lead times, five quality systems, five people to chase when something slips. You split up your own project just to get it built.

Why quoting a BOM line by line fails

The parts on a BOM aren’t independent. They mate, stack tolerances, arrive at an assembly line together, or don’t arrive at all. Quoting them in isolation misses that. For example, the vendor machining your baseplate doesn’t know the molded cover is running three weeks behind and has no reason to care.

Process transitions make it worse. Quick-turn parts and production parts are different problems even when the geometry looks the same. A design that prints fine in additive often won’t survive the move to a mold without changes, and pricing between the two doesn’t translate. We’ve seen programs where bridge parts and production parts needed different approaches. A platform built around a single process window can handle either phase. Not both, not on one timeline, not under one quote.

What full-BOM sourcing looks like

Precision Expedited quotes the whole BOM. That’s what a manufacturing sourcing partner is for. Our vetted vendor network covers CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, injection molding, additive manufacturing, finishing, and assembly, so every line item gets matched to a shop proven in that process. Our engineers review the full package before anything goes to quote, including handoffs between processes, so an additive-to-molding transition is flagged at the drawing stage rather than at tooling.

You get one number, one timeline, one point of contact from RFQ to delivery. Parts are inspected in San Clemente before they ship. So, when something moves, a single call reaches the person managing it all.

How to get a full BOM quoted

Send the whole package, not just the drawings. Include the BOM with quantities, prints or models for every line item, quantities per phase if you’re bridging into production, and your target dates. Flag anything already sourced. The more complete the package, the faster a real person can review it and come back with a real number.

ISO 9001:2015. ITAR Registered. AS9100 Compliant.

You shouldn’t have to break up your own project to get it built. Send us your BOM.

Design for manufacturability: the cheap fixes that get skipped before quoting
